Boston Bed Bug Control

Catered to your specific needs

Interior Service

Bostonian Hitchhikers are familiar with the best spots in Cambridge and along route 9 to catch a ride, but there is a much more menacing group of hitchhikers making a surge in the Boston Metro area – the bed bug.

Origins

Bed bugs can be traced back to ancient Egypt, but likely started much earlier transitioning from feeding on bats in cave to humans. They have survived the test of time and many efforts to exterminate them for good.

In modern times, bed bugs originate from anywhere they can catch a ride. In hotels, apartments, theatres, buses, libraries, hospitals, and just about anywhere else that people go, bed bugs can try to catch a ride and find a host that will carry them to a new location.

Habitat

Bedbugs are not related to filth like many pests, but simply require a human host to feed on. Their only concerns are getting blood, reproducing, and having safe shelter. Increasing hiding places for bed bugs can augment population growth, but they can thrive in neat and tidy environments as well.

Appearance

Bed Bugs are roughly the size and shape of a watermelon seed. Males have a more pointed abdomen than the smoother, rounded abdomen females. After a blood meal, a bed bug’s body will have more of a reddish appearance than brown and will elongate with larger meals.

Treatment

Bed bugs have a thick waxy coating to their exoskeleton that protects them from pesticides making them one of the more resistant insects we deal with. At Rove, we combat their durability with heat treatments. By elevating temperatures in dwellings, we are able to kill all life stages (egg, nymph, and adult) of the bed bug. This treatment not only increases the effectiveness by hitting the complete population at once, but it also dramatically decreases the time it takes to take care of a population. Chemical applications may take weeks, months or even years in some cases to take care of a bed bug situation, but an effective heat treatment can knock out a population in less than a day.

The Process

A Rove bed bug specialist will meet with you to determine your specific situational needs. A custom plan will be put together including preparation work, the day of treatment, the necessary follow up post treatment, and any educational elements you need to help you avoid recurrence.
